Erdrich USA is seeking a skilled and dependable Turning & Rolling Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for operating, setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting turning and rolling equipment used in the production of precision brake pistons for the automotive industry.

What You'll Do

Machine Setup & Operation

  • Set up, adjust, and operate CNC and automated turning and rolling machines.
  • Load raw material and verify correct machine programs and tooling before production begins.
  • Perform machine changeovers and tooling adjustments according to production requirements.
  • Monitor machine performance and make process adjustments to maintain quality and productivity standards.
  • Troubleshoot routine machine issues and escalate major concerns to maintenance or supervision.

Quality Assurance

  • Perform in-process inspections using measuring instruments such as:
    • Calipers
    • Micrometers
    • Height gauges
    • Pin gauges
    • Optical inspection equipment
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, control plans, and work instructions.
  • Ensure brake pistons meet customer specifications and automotive quality standards.
  • Complete all production and quality documentation accurately.
  • Identify and report non-conforming materials or production issues immediately.

Production Performance

  • Meet established production targets while maintaining quality standards.
  • Monitor cycle times, scrap rates, downtime, and productivity metrics.
  • Support continuous improvement activities focused on efficiency, waste reduction, and process optimization.
  • Assist engineering and quality teams during product launches and process improvements.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and operator maintenance requirements.
  • Conduct daily inspections of machines and tooling.
  • Assist maintenance technicians during repairs and troubleshooting activities.
  • Ensure proper machine care and maintenance documentation.

Material Handling & Logistics

  • Support movement of materials and finished goods within the production area.
  • Prepare packaging and labeling according to customer requirements.
  • Maintain proper inventory control and product traceability.

Safety & Workplace Organization

  • Follow all company safety, environmental, and quality policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area utilizing 5S principles.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Experience operating industrial production machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and overtime as needed.

Preferred

  • Experience operating:
    • Turning machines
    • CNC equipment
    • Roll forming equipment
    • Metal forming processes
    • Automotive component manufacturing equipment
  • Experience in brake piston, precision metal stamping, machining, or automotive manufacturing.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Overhead crane certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Successful candidates will possess:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Understanding of machining and metal forming processes.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to identify quality concerns before defects occur.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach regularly.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery and moderate noise levels.
